It is hard to accurately describe the difference the water softener has made in our home. We originally purchased it as we did not want to spend loads of money on a new wet room; only to have it ruined by limescale. Prior to the installation of our water softener; my hands were in quite a state. They were dry, cracked, and painful. Two different prescriptions of steroid cream had failed to improve their condition. Within days of having our water softener installed; my hands began to improve. They are now back to normal thanks to the combination of soft water and reduced use of cleaning chemicals.
